Gorgeous Girls Gala(vanting)

Monday was the anual Metropolitan Costume Gala — and most of the ladies looked stunning.  as usual the gowns were more festive than what we see on the Oscars runway (which is what makes it so fun, yes?) take a look below at the trends that crossed the scarlet carpet.

Long Live McQueenAs the evening was to celebrate the late great Lee McQueen, lots of people wore pieces from past collections: Sarah Jessica Parker in vintage McQueen; Naomi Campbell in custom McQueen, Karen Elson, Salma Hayek

A Cut (Out) Above The Rest
Cut outs are deffinitly a newer trend on the red carpet, espescially side cut outs (so hot right now)  Ginnifer Goodwin looks phenomenal in the twisted emerald green version, while Beyonce’s was a bit too much with the lace AND cutouts AND fish tail AND embroidery..  from left to right: Nicole Richie, Kerry Washington, Ginnifer Goodwin, J Lo, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Beyonce Knowles

Solid POPSimple design and optimistic colors made these ladies stand out from the rest : Brooklyn Decker, Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Saldana (looove the pleated back detail of this column dress) Vera Wang (please eat something) Eva Mendez, and Nancy Shevell

It’s A Mans WorldUsually it’s all about the ladies, but some of the gentlemen decided to work the runway as well. Hamish Bowels in custom Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs and Rober Duffy, Victor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, the Karl, Stefano Pilati, Zac Posen and Andre Leon Talley in a custom kaftan (really?  i thought it was off the rack!)

We Put Birds on ThingsPlumed, plucked and perfectly pretty, feathers were all over the place. Florence Welch in Yves Saint Laurent, Daphne Guiness in Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton, Margherita Missoni in Missoni, Liv Tyler in Givenchy Couture, Lucy Liu in Vionnet, Demi Moore in Parbal Gurung

Hey OmbreSome of the most stunning gowns of the evening had ombre effects that kept the eye moving from head to toe to head again.  Christina Ricci looks AMAZEBALLS in Zac Posen (is it me or is she channeling her faux ma Morticia Addams?) Taylor Swift looks beautifully grown up in J Mendel, Christina Hendricks in Carolina Herrea, Anna Wintor in possibly one of my favorite Chanel Couture gowns from Spring Summer

Flower GirlsA little more graphic than what might be thought of as a red carpet gown, these ladies were easy to spot.  Blake Lively in Chanel Couture, Emma Stone in Lanvin, Akota Fanning in Valentino, L’Wren Scott in L’Wren Scott

Black and White and Red Carpet All OverClassic colors and unique silhouettes. Elle Fanning incredibly age appropriate in Valentino (love it paired with the flats!) Ashley Olsen in Christian Dior, Diane Kruger in Jason Wu

Hem and HawAnother pretty recent trend showed up on the red carpet — the mullet hem! Hailee Steinfeld in Stella McCartney and Jessica Stam in Tommy Hilfiger

Black Tie OptionalAnd trend setters Chloë Sevigny and Freida Pinto look fit to be tied. Chloë wears Alexander McQueen, Freida is in Chanel Couture

Bitch’ll Cut You

Lanvin Spring Summer 2011 Ad Campaignas if every season the Lanvin catwalk doesn’t give enough mind blowing sexual energy, lust worthy accessories and orgasm inducing outfits, it seems that Alber Elbez must also come out with the best cat fight ad campaign ever.  the luxe apt they shot in is super phenom too.  i love the sleazy 70’s porn quality — looks like someone was watching The Eyes of Laura Mars!Lanvin Spring Summer 2011 Ad Campaignladies, how lucky are we to have such an amazing man in our corner!  Alber Elbez seems to have the sleek seductive eye of Tom Ford, the prolific design capabilities of Karl Lagerfeld, the classic sensibilities of Stella McCartney and the wild experimental streak of Vivienne Westwood all rolled up into the most sweetest, shyest, most woman loving man ever. Lanvin Spring Summer 2011 Ad Campaigntill he makes us fight over him that is.  and, um, sheer draped dress con harness and bug brooch?  i’ll take that thanks.Lanvin Spring Summer 2011 Ad CampaignBut in the end, who is actually winning this?  i’d sure as hell fight for some Lanvin.

it’s so funny how fashion works… remember a few years ago when grey was the most refreshing color out there?  and now i’m so excited for all the new silhouettes and bright colors, print mixing and bold color blocking. Street styling is going to be so much fun to watch this spring in Manhattan! a lot of these trends work really well together too, which if done properly, could make some really wild new interpretations of the trends.  Obviously 70’s and print mixing go, and color blocking, minimalism and long skirts fit seamlessly together, but minimal maximal, like Prada’s graphic prints on simplistic silhouettes, Jil Sander’s exaggerated lines or Celine’s voluminous leather skirts is the stuff i can’t wait to see on the street! Layers and detail that should be contradiction but instead create something wholly new…  Ok cold weather and bundling up even when i’m inside, get outta here! We got some spring fashions to see!

a sheer thing

obsessing over all the ways to wear sheer this fall.  creating etherial layers that float over the body, layered over prints or chunky knits, sweet and romantic with just a touch of goth and victorian esthetic.  i love the idea of wearing a sheer button up done all the way to the neck, or a sheer maxi dress floating over a nude vintage slip and covered with a chunky cardi..

super awesome lace garter tank by Kiki de Montparnasse

Wolford Cinema string body suit

Jill Sander iridescent long sleeve button up – i LOVE the contrast between the sheerness of the shirt/exposure with the demure long sleeve fully button up – my cup of tea.

i love the combination of sheer maxi skirt with blazer, low necklace and flapper headband.  just the right amount of accessories and slouchy bag to make this look relaxed and so chic

with the tailored pant and touch of leopard print the sheer top and bra look sweet and lady like rather than over exposed and trashy

Maison Close Soutien-Gorge corset bra

Stella McCartney strapless organza dress – i have a feeling i am going to make myself something like this in a body con style

something other than black! the Podolls winged blouse

i LOOOOVE the mesh tee over cable knit sweater – and mixed with the leopard bag and phenomenal print leggings and coordinating scarf, this look is a total winner
